Meritocracy?

What is happening? I've been on top for years. Years! And yet now these upstarts have the audacity to question what I've done to make me worthy of being on top? Hah! Obviously, I'm on top because I'm the best at what I do. If I weren't, I wouldn't be in charge. Sure, I may not have actually published anything in a while…and ok, yes, I did silence the research into that potential cure for that red bioweapon because the lead scientist had said I wasn't worthy of being in charge–but of course I did! I'm in charge, and only the best are in charge! Therefore, I'm the best! She needed to learn her place! That's not anything for me to be ashamed of–it's just being a good leader! And I am a good leader–that's why I'm a leader! So, I'm not worried at all about these upstarts. Nope. They have no right to question me. Nope. Not worried at all…

Muddying of the waters

Your average Selasi either idolises or despises Eunomia. For all intents and purposes, there is no middle ground to speak of. Or so it has been, for decades if not centuries.

Now, though, polling is indicating a change. Whilst of course there are still extremists, we are witnessing the growth of a moderate segment. There is a rapidly-growing segment of the population that, whilst they do not desire any type of re-unification between Selas and Eunomia, also do not feel that Eunomia are the utter evil they have long been portrayed as by a certain segment of the population.

In fact, in a recent poll of Selasi citizens, a full 64% of the 18-25 age bracket said they either 'Disagree' or 'Strongly disagree' with the statements Selasi culture is the antithesis of Eunomian culture and Selasi and Eunomian cultures are not compatible.

The leaders of this system would be wise to take heed of this change. No longer can they appeal to one side, disparaging the other, and be seen as righteous. The waters have been muddied, and we should choose out tack carefully.
