Visionary Atlock

The Rest of Their Life

House call

The next stop was a small village on Cheimeros. This village was isolated even by Cheimeran standards. From what I'd heard, the village had traditionally relied on other Cheimeran settlements for a lot of what they needed to survive, but a recent eruption had cut them off from these other settlements. Stripped of their lifeline, they were now stricken by an outbreak of disease. I knew I might not be welcomed with open arms, but I also could not just stand by whilst they suffered.

Upon arrival, I realised just what a state the village was in. Most of the afflicted were children, and the adults seemed powerless to help for the simple reason that they lacked the requisite supplies. Luckily, I was prepared. I quickly administered some medication to the children to ease their suffering, then laid out a longer-term plan of treatment. I left to the adults the supplies they'd need to carry out the plan, knowing they'd prefer to do so themselves, and then bid them farewell. - Visionary Atlock, 'Days of a travelling doctor'
