Report by Tamika Li, Chronos agent.
Detection of an unauthorised Chronos machine occurred on 2086.243. The activation time of the machine was determined as 5 days - implying an attempt to synchronise with the machine used in Kedalion AI research experiments.
Agent Li (the author) was deployed to determine the nature of the machine, as the closest operative to the detection point. On arrival, it became apparent that no spoofing of either location or time of activation had occurred - the machine was in the exact location predicted within the Kedalion system, on an outer moon of the fifth planet.
Infiltration of the facility was difficult, but completed with some time to spare before the active window. Due to the potentially serious consequences of terminating the warmup at this late stage, the decision was taken (unilaterally, and the author accepts any and all consequences from this) to perform direct intervention to prevent any travel into the past. Hacking systems were deployed to obtain control over doorways in the station, and signal interceptors were used to ensure that no upload escapes would be possible.
In the first instance, an attempt was made to simply prevent access to the Chronos machine at the start of the active period by a series of carefully timed door malfunctions. However, due to counter-hacking attempts, this was unsuccessful. Once it had been confirmed that all personnel on the station were Enhanced, and that signal interceptors and upload facilities were available, external doors and their safety protocols were overridden and jammed, causing an air leak for the station. Again, this decision was taken unilaterally and against protocol, but Agent Li accepts any and all consequences of this, and believes it to be necessary to prevent any causal interference.
All persons on the station were confirmed as stored on the signal intercept, following their attempt to upload their consciousnesses to a secure storage. As per standard procedure in this situation, they will be given the choice of serving their sentences either in simulation or after re-embodiment.
Report by Alphonse Jaquin, on behalf of Nix Ralone, Chronos Scientist.
Tamika Li was one of the Promethean heroes who helped to prevent the war. Tamika Li was a keen collaborator with the Chronos initiative, both during and after the Prometheus project. Tamika Li was by far the most successful of the agents enforcing the time travel treaty.
Tamika Li was an entirely manufactured person.
Kaia Sharpe is a Kedalion agent, whose first posting was to Selas, under the employ of Dr Inaya Croft, with the identity of Tamika Li. Following Croft's assignment to the Prometheus project, Sharpe was brought in as well, giving Kedalion a large advantage in the timeline changes that followed. Sharpe maintained this cover throughout the Prometheus mission, and in the aftermath was instrumental in setting up the enforcement protocols for the time travel treaty.
While our investigations are still incomplete, at this point it should be assumed that any missions on which Tamika Li was involved were somehow compromised. It is likely that in any case where a Chronos machine proceeded to activation, Kaia Sharpe engineered some change to the timeline which favoured Kedalion. Mapping out the extent of these changes is likely to be impossible.
“Following the arrest of Tamika Li AKA Kaia Sharpe, Kedalion deny any involvement in her apparent betrayal of the Chronos organisation. The Kedalion Governance Board insist that Kaia Sharpe acted alone and without orders from Kedalion, and that no “Kedalion Intelligence Agency” exists in this timeline (though they do not deny that one may have been formed during the post-Ananke war in Kaia's original timeline).”
Champion Chora sits in the bar on Eunomia, listening in on the television as her Secondary keeps tabs on the conversations happening around her. She's glad the insisted on a facial reconstruction for this assignment - her face was already a bit too recognisable after the Prometheus returned, and this is going to make it worse again. There's a chirping sensation in her head as an encrypted communication comes in. She leaves her secondary to handle her activities in the bar - the artificial mind seamlessly taking over as she enters the dreamlike state of Enhancement “telepathy”.
- Kaia, you're being recalled. We appreciate the work you're doing, but questions are being asked about you now that your alternate has been captured.
- This is bullshit. She fucks up and gets caught, and now it's my problem? Just punt a newmind into a body that looks like me - hell, it can have my memory logs to get started, should be convincing enough.
- This isn't up for debate. Champion Chora will be having an “unfortunate illness” over the next week, which will keep you confined to hospital until your eventual demise. A ship is already en route to extract you.
Kaia becomes aware of her body coughing and apologising.
- You already convinced my Secondary, didn't you… Dammit, we need someone here - now that Failing Light is dead this whole thing could go either way. We might be looking at another war!
- We have people for that. You need to come home.
Kaia Sharpe eases back into control of her body, and resumes the act as Champion Chora. Her Secondary briefs her on the conversation, and the symptoms it has been showing for her - with a little guilt, but not enough to sate Kaia's anger at the betrayal.
“Sorry folks, I'm felling like shit - I should probably turn in. See you tomorrow for the rally yeah?”
